LAS VEGAS NIGHT

February 1, 2006: A NIGHT OF FUN AND GAMES! Each year TMAC takes a night out of our busy schedule and lets us join in the fun of Las Vegas.

This night takes a lot of planning and a lot of work. Twenty-five volunteers cannot do it; we need a lot more than that. If we get enough volunteers, no one person will have to work all night and they can have some fun also. Please help us out for at least one hour.

Some of the fun things going on during the evening:

Prices are reasonable: cups of chips sold in $5, $10, and $20. Please help us out, or at least join us for some fun. February 1, 2007.

TANGLEWOOD CHRISTMAS FOOD DRIVE

It is almost time for our annual Christmas Food Drive. Our goal is to make a complete Christmas meal for those families and senior citizens in need during the holiday season. Mr. Greytak donates a ham for each box we can fill. A list of the categories is on the bulletin board in the lobby. Last year we fed 180 families. LET’S BREAK THAT RECORD THIS YEAR!! Some of our committees sponsor events to collect food and cash for the food drive. We hope you will support their activities.

You can drop off donations to Janet Ortberg, our Activities Director, by December 14th. All residents are welcome to come up to the clubhouse at 2:00 PM on December 15th to help us with this very worthwhile project. Christmas goodies will be served. If you are leaving for the holidays, you can drop off your donations to Janet before you leave. If you are unable to go shopping, you can also make a cash donation. If every resident made a contribution, think how many needy families we could help!

CAROLING IN TANGLEWOOD

What better way to celebrate the Christmas season and to brighten the lives of our fellow residents than to join us for a round of Christmas caroling on Saturday, December 23rd at 6:30 PM.

This year marks the third year for what we hope will become a lasting tradition in our “community that cares”. In 2004, we had 30 participants and stopped at the homes of 15 residents who needed a holiday lift. In 2005, that number swelled to 107 carolers: and our target audience grew to 25 residents. This year we look for 200 carolers to join this effort. We will “cart pool” and divide the community into several sections.

Following an hour of caroling, we will return to the clubhouse for donuts and hot chocolate. It’s a great time, and you will feel so good inside afterward!

Sign up beginning December 1st to join us. You don’t have to be a good singer. You just have to have the spirit! If you know someone that would enjoy a visit from our carolers on the 23rd, please give their name to Pastor Ken Thoreson, Diane Lowry, or Tom McKeever.

TANGLEWOOD AFGHANS PRICELESS TO HABITAT

There is a group of retired ladies living in the Tanglewood community that are pretty special to us at Highlands County Habitat for Humanity and to many other people. These women put in several hours of community service knitting beautiful, colorful afghans to be given to all of our new Habitat homeowners. Each afghan is in itself a work of art. Every afghan is unique and an original. The colors, patterns, and intricate detailing are breathtakingly beautiful. There is no doubt that these women have put a lot of love into each afghan that they make. We would like to acknowledge these ladies and the long hours they dedicate in making each original afghan for people they don’t even know.

The afghans are presented to the new Habitat homeowners at their dedication ceremonies. We have had some homeowners cry upon being presented with their afghans. The homeowners frequently gloat and comment how beautiful, priceless and meaningful the afghans is to them. Ladies of Tanglewood, Highlands County Habitat for Humanity gives you a big thank you for your selfless acts of love that goes into the making of each afghan. We thank you, the homeowners thank you and Highlands county residents thank you for going above and beyond the call of duty. May God bless you all. Sharon Wright

And a note from Janet:
Not only do our gals make afghans for Habitat, but beautiful red, white and blue ones for the Veterans in nursing homes, lap and shoulder robes for nursing home patients, and items for tiny babies in the hospitals. Our Quilters and Denim Sewing Group also make beautiful lap robes, clothing, and more. All these beautiful ladies use their talents for the comfort and happiness of others.
