March 2007
9 AM 4 PM Monday Friday
863-381-9032.
THIS IS FOR ELECTRICAL AND WATER SHOOTING IN THE AIR EMERGENCIES ONLY.
NOTICE: GOLF CART THEFTS Residents have recently had two golf carts stolen and another dumped in a pond. Most golf carts use the same key. We strongly suggest you have an automotive type ignition switch installed to replace present switch.
ICE MACHINE AT REC HALL:
Please be courteous of other residents. Take only enough ice from the ice machine for a 20 quart cooler or less. Thank you
NEW WATER RESTRICTIONS: We are under NEW lawn watering restrictions of the Water Management District. Lawn watering to be done between 6 pm and 8 am as follows:
| House # Ending In: | May Water On: |
|---|---|
| 0 or 1 | Monday |
| 2 or 3 | Tuesday |
| 4 or 5 | Wednesday |
| 6 or 7 | Thursday |
| 8 or 9 | Friday |
Because of the size of our Rec Hall area and the entrances and the number of zones, we may water between 4 pm and 10 am on two days.
PLEASE RESET YOUR SPRINKLERS TO BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE RESTRICTIONS. THE RESTRICTIONS ARE TO PROTECT OUR PRECIOUS COMMODITY. THERE ARE VERY STIFF PENALTIES IF CAUGHT WATERING ON THE WRONG DAYS AND TIMES AND/OR MORE THAN ONE-DAY PER WEEK.
GATE CODE CHANGE : IF YOU HAVE NOT HAD YOUR GATE OPENER REPROGRAMMED, BE SURE TO DO SO PRIOR TO MARCH 6. WE WILL CHANGE THE KEYPAD CODE ON TUESDAY, MARCH 6TH. Check Channel 80 or check with either the Rec Director or the business office for the new code.
DO NOT GIVE THE GATE CODE TO PIZZA DRIVERS AND LAWN MOWING CONTRACTORS, ETC. For deliveries after hours, have driver call you via our gate system at the 27 entrance so that you can open the gate via your landline phone. If you have no local phone, go to the gate and meet the driver. Your guests or contractors can call you from the US 27 gate by using the A to Z buttons on the faceplate of the gate entry system. You must have a local number. Cell phones won’t work. When your name is displayed, your personal code will appear. Your guest may either push the “Call” button or enter your code which will cause your telephone to ring. If your guest already knows your directory code, they can simply enter the code on the keypad. Once you answer your telephone and identify your guest, press 9 on your touchtone phone to cause the gate to open. If you do not want to open the gate, simply hang up the phone.
EMS, police and fire have siren-based access and Progress Energy and the paper carriers have their own codes.
GOLF CART PATH GATE:
For security reasons, we have changed the exit gate at the golf cart path so that you now need to use your card to exit as well as to come back in.
GUESTS: Residents may bring overnight guests to management-sponsored events such as fire rings, bashes and Resident Appreciation Day.
Residents may bring a day guest and use our facilities such as the pool, tennis courts, etc. AS LONG AS THE GUEST HAS A GUEST PASS AND IS ACCOMPANIED BY THE RESIDENT.
WE WILL AT NO TIME ALLOW GUESTS TO CROWD OUT OUR RESIDENTS’ USE OF THE FACILITIES.
POKER PLAYERS: The February 15, 2007, issue of “News from Florida Manufactured Housing Association, Inc.” states: “Florida Statutes section 849.08 says that participation in a card game (or in a lot of other activities) constitutes illegal gambling and is punishable as a crime, a misdemeanor.
An exception is granted in Section 849.085 F.S. where it says (among other things) that a “penny ante” game is allowed in the common areas of a mobile home park.
“Penny ante” is defined as a game where no single winning pot is larger than $10. Thus the size of the pot, not actually the size of the ante (the original bet to begin the game), controls whether a game is illegal gambling or is exempt.
However, if any of the pots are over $10, the activity must be stopped as it is illegal. A community cannot knowingly allow illegal activities to take place in its clubhouse (or in other common areas).”
No games are allowed to be played in Tanglewood facilities with pots over $10. Violators will be subject to eviction.
WIND CHIMES: Please be considerate of your neighbors and on unusually breezy days, either tie the chimes together or take them down. Many of these chimes are next to a neighbor’s bedroom and if they are constantly clanging, make it nearly impossible to sleep. If you want an idea of how this sounds, hang the chimes in your bedroom in front of a fan.
WI-FI: After talking with several communities that have installed Wi-Fi and are not happy with the performance, I have again concluded that Tanglewood cannot be properly covered by Wi-Fi. Bad coverage + slow speed = No thanks. Today’s Wi-Fi is capable of Wi-Fi hot spots but not total coverage. If any of you know of a 400-acre community with over 1,000 homes that have Wi-Fi and it works well for all residents, please let me know.
VOLLEYBALL, HORSESHOE AND PICKLEBALL COURTS : We see the pickleball courts getting lots of use and the horseshoe pits at the Rec Circle getting more use, but have still not seen anyone playing volleyball (other than in the pool). What happened to all you residents who signed the sheet saying you would play sand volleyball? GET THE LEAD OUT AND USE THESE FACILITIES!
YELLOW GRASS, BUSHES AND TREES: We are seeing lots of yellowing lawns and palm trees. Please fertilize your lawn, plants and trees if they are not a good green color. This will also help them withstand the winter.
NEW REC BUILDING : We expect the new building to be ready for occupancy some time in March.
CONGRATULATIONS to Don and Marie Mote, 533 Wilderness Circle, for winning the March Beautification Award.
MANUFACTURED HOME AREA – As stated in the Rules, Paragraph 6, you may sublet your home for a single six (6) month period once every three years. The sublettee must first be approved by Management in writing. It is most important that you read and comply with all of Paragraph 6 of the Rules prior to subletting your home.
NO BICYCLES OR GOLF CARTS ON NATURE TRAIL OR SIDEWALKS – OTHER THAN THE ONE BY THE PETANQUE COURTS AND IN DREAMCATCHER.
SATELLITE DISHES:
Before signing a contract for a satellite dish, please Click Here to read the portion of this newsletter regarding the satellite dish information and installation rules.
If installed incorrectly, it will have to be reinstalled.
Must have a Tanglewood sticker. Licensed drivers only. Children operating golf carts is a tragedy waiting to happen. Don't let it be your grandchild!
WINDOW A/C UNITS : Window air conditioning units are allowed in screen rooms so as not to be visible from the street (Paragraph 7.D. of the Rules. If you have a window unit (you know who you are), either place a cover around your air conditioning unit with vinyl that matches your home or place bushes in front of the unit (if in a place where this is possible) so the unit cannot be seen from the street. Most homes have a few extra pieces of matching vinyl stored in the crawl space under the home.
Will be covered when nighttime temperature is below 60 degrees and uncovered when the daytime temperature is 65 degrees with little to no wind. NO SMOKING IN OR AROUND POOL. You may smoke under the covered patios. DO NOT ENTER POOL WITH OPEN SORES. PICK UP AND DISPOSE OF YOUR OWN TRASH. Please do not lounge in the lap area if lap swimmers are present. Open until sundown. Please place a towel between you and the chair. No food, alcohol or glass on lower deck. SHOWER BEFORE ENTERING POOL.
SMOKING AT THE POOL : Smoking is permitted ONLY ON THE UPPER VERANDA.
RV Dumpsters are for RV household garbage only. Please be courteous and do not put yard waste, batteries, tires, old furniture, etc. in the RV dumpster. This is a rule of the local landfill. Reliable Sanitation will pick up large items from all but the RV section. Call 385-0817 and they’ll tell you when they’ll be here. Yard waste is picked up in the manufactured home section the first and third Wednesdays. Yard waste is picked up in the Outback every Wednesday. Please do not place at the street until the evening before.
If you or your spouse are handicapped, (have a handicap permit for your vehicle), you may get a “handicap” badge from the Rec Director.
GOLF CART PATH GATE : Walkers and bicyclists. There is a push button to open the gate from the inside. It is located on the backside of the most northern PVC post on the east side of the path.
All prospective new residents, whether purchasing a new or resale home, must undergo a Criminal/Sexual Offender/Sexual Predator background check. No leases will be signed until the background is checked and approved.
All residents' autos, golf carts and items in storage must have a TW sticker. Storage with no sticker will be towed away at owner's expense.
YARD LIGHTS : Must be kept operational, even when you are not here. They are to have white or clear (NO COLORED) bulbs of at least 40 watts. Please keep your plants trimmed away from the light and your name sign. If you have an emergency, you want the ambulance driver to be able to see your address.
Nearly all activities are run by resident volunteers and they do an outstanding job. Please, when attending a function, help by pushing your chair in, cleaning off your table, picking up any mess and helping in any way possible. Join a committee – get to know your neighbors. It’s a great way to make friends! Be a doer – not a taker.
There are to be no individual garage sales in Tanglewood without written management permission. We have two garage sales per year at the Rec Hall.
If there is a power outage, the gate can be opened and closed manually. Once the power is back on, the gate will go back to automatic operation.
New members must attend the safety class prior to using any equipment. Please sign the safety class sign-up sheet at the Rec Hall.
It’s a good idea to once a year have the underside of your home inspected for termite mud tunnels and have the roof inspected to make sure all vents, skylights, etc. are properly sealed.
No trees may be removed without prior management approval. You may pick up a Tree Removal Policy at the business office.
Please be considerate of others and remove your clothes from the washers and dryers as soon as they are finished being washed and dried.
We apologize for the low water level in the ponds. We haven’t yet figured out how to make it rain on demand. The sandy “shelf” you see in some of the ponds is a littoral shelf and is a requirement of the Department of Environmental Protection.
The majority of our complaints are regarding residents’ pets relieving themselves on other residents’ lawns. DO NOT ALLOW YOUR PET TO RELIEVE ITSELF UNTIL YOU GET TO THE COMMON AREA AND PICK UP AFTER IT. Anyone caught putting dog excrement into the storm sewers will be reported to the Department of Environmental Protection. Do not bring pets to social events. Pets must be leashed at all times when outside your home.
Please use the drive-up drop box in the island at the business office for anything you wish to deliver to the business office; i.e., rent checks, warranty forms, etc.
