CALL 911 IF YOU ARE WITNESSING A CRIME IN PROGRESS
HIGHLANDS COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE
Our Monday Morning Coffee (April 18, 2005) guest was Nell Hayes from the Highlands County Sheriff's Office. We had great attendance and she shared information on our Neighborhood Watch and on the County. We hope to have her back next winter when more of the residents are "in town". Thank you Nell!
NORTHERN EXODUS
As the exodus continues to cooler climates, a suggestion for when you are away. Many residents are roping off the entrance to their driveway so no one will park there over the summer. That practice is an announcement to passersby that the home is unoccupied. Please refrain from roping off your driveway. If you know someone who has already done so and left for the summer and you can reach him or her, please ask if you can take it down. You could be doing them a big favor.
Also, I will repeat the list of Things To Do Before You Leave:
- Leave the power service in your home on, but disconnect all unnecessary appliances and lights. Plug in a timer and utilize some lights so that your home looks occupied.
- Ask a year round neighbor to check your lights and replace bulbs as necessary while you are gone. Leave some replacement bulbs for that purpose.
- Have a friend or neighbor park a car in your driveway from time to time, to make it look like someone is home.
- Ask a neighbor to place bagged trash out for pick-up in front of your home from time to time.
- Leave a key and your summer contact information with a trusted neighbor or friend in the event of an emergency. Also, your Neighborhood Watch group should have this contact information. If you have not supplied that to your block captain, please do so now.
Have a safe worry free trip north!
TANGLEWOOD INCIDENT
There was one incident in Tanglewood in April. A resident on Sunflower had a window shot out. The Sheriff's Office was called and the Deputy traced down the boys (who were from Sun N Lakes). According to the report, they had been out shooting at birds with a BB gun. Contact was made with the parents and the window was repaired. Please remember to report suspicious activity. If a crime is in progress, call 911 IMMEDIATLY . If you have a question or comment you can call the Non- emergency number, 863-402-7200.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
As Tanglewood adds new neighborhoods, we need volunteers! If you are living in Big Sky or Crossroads, and would be willing to serve as the Block Captain or in another capacity, please contact Chuck Bjore at 863-471-6636.
Neighborhood Watch always welcomes volunteers!
Have a great summer.
