CALL 911 IF YOU ARE WITNESSING A CRIME IN PROGRESS
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
Thankfully, we have come to the end of the 2006 Hurricane season without a storm and we can all relax and enjoy life in Tanglewood.
Neighborhood Watch hosted Monday Morning Coffee on October 23rd and introduced former security officer Robert Hamilton who gave an interesting talk on home security and safety.
The Neighborhood Watch Coordinators and Block Captains were unable to meet with the Sheriff’s Crime Prevention officers in October because the new offices in the Mall were not complete. At this writing, I understand the offices are complete and the Sub-Station is now manned in the Mall near the Food Court. They can be reached at 385-0024.
We all know the basics of AVOIDING CRIME but it never hurts to review our options. The following are a few things to help you.
- It is safest to have your key in hand before you reach your car or home. Searching for a key can leave you open to attack.
- Burglars often ring the doorbell to see if anyone is home before attempting to break in. It’s best to respond to the doorbell without opening the door.
- Listing your first name in the directory gives strangers information you many not want them to have.
- Your belongings are never as important as your life. It’s best to give them up and hope doing so will save you from harm.
- A deadbolt lock with at least a 1-inch bolt is the best type of lock to prevent break-ins.
- Never go into a house if a burglar may still be inside. Go to a neighbor’s home or pay phone and phone police.
- Never leave any papers in your car that will help a car thief or that will cause hardship for you if stolen.
- Being alert, confident, and aware of your surroundings are your best defenses against crime.
- When parking your car look around before you get out. If you see suspicious-looking people around, drive on.
- Lock all doors while you’re in the car and when you leave it.
- Engrave valuable property with some marking.
- Keep photos of your valuables and a current list describing each item, brand and serial number.
- Lock all outside doors before you leave or go to bed. Lock all windows.
- Leave lights on when you go out and a radio playing.
A reminder – Let your neighbors know when you will be away and watch FOR and help one another. If you are alone and cannot get help, one way to let it be known you have a problem is to press the horn button on your automatic auto keys. The horn will alert someone in the neighborhood.
The holidays are upon us. Enjoy them! Keep Safe! Keep Watching in your Neighborhood!

Therefore the man is not a liar. Though he is Lying. But remember You are on the
edge of town not in it!
